I started out the day with Kim and all of her ladies, at The Spa at Falling Waters in Orchard Park.  It’s such a beautiful place, and they did an amazing job getting all the girls ready for the big day!

Then, we all headed over to the Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Buffalo, to get Kim into her dress and FABULOUS shoes!

Then, Ben and all the guys made their way over to what is probably the most amazing church we’ve ever seen – Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawana.  This one jumped out at me while selecting blog images…what a cool, fun shot of all the guys outside the church, Ben!  LOVE IT!

Then, it was over to the Botanical Gardens to get the party started!
The weather that day was all over the place.  Kim and Josh chose Delaware Park as the spot for their wedding party shots, but as soon as we got there, the skies opened up and everyone had to run for cover!  Luckily, it stopped raining when we got to the Gardens.  The sun came out, and we got to take some awesome wedding party shots after all!


The Botanical Gardens are such a lovely place for a wedding reception…and, for adorable bride and groom shots!  YAY!

This shot of Ben’s made me laugh out loud!  While there’s no denying that the Gardens are absolutely gorgeous, the staff is fabulous, and the weddings that take place there are top notch, there is one downside – it’s unbelievably FREAKING HOT in there!!!  Hotter than hot…sweating through your clothes hot!  But, in spite of the hot and sticky environment, we managed to have a great time.  :)

Aaaahhhhh!!!  We see so many “first dances,” and all of them are wonderful in their own ways; but, this one was in a league of its own.  It was completely choreographed, rehearsed, and practiced until it was pure perfection!  Kim and Josh did an amazing job!  :)

At the very end of the evening, we borrowed Kim and Josh to grab just a few more “bride and groom” portraits.  I love everything about this couple, and everything about these shots!  :)

Joanna and Nathaniel are one of those couples. Their love is contagious, and their wedding day was absolutely beautiful. They wanted their ceremony to be intimate, so they got married right in the backyard of Nathanial’s family’s home, surrounded by their closest friends and family! It could not have been more perfect. :)

Toward the end of the ceremony, Joanna’s maid of honor read Dr. Suess’s “Oh the Places You’ll Go.” Out of all the weddings we’ve been to, we’ve never heard that done as a reading before; it was absolutely perfect!

Then, we were off to do some portraits of the bride and groom with the ultimate wedding photo prop – a classic, cherry red Chevy!  We knew that the car would look awesome in pictures, but we didn’t really know how awesome until we saw it with our own eyeballs.  WOW!  We’re pretty happy with the way these turned out.  ;)

Trinity Church is an absolutely gorgeous place for a wedding ceremony.  They’re not very “photography-friendly” – no flash allowed!! It was no sweat, though…we love a good challenge!

Okay, I totally love this.  I almost always include a shot of “the kiss” in every wedding blog post; but, this shot (immeditately following “the kiss”) totally wins the prize for adorable-ness.  Have you ever seen a happier bride and groom?

I’ve said it before, but I’ll happily say it again – Pearl Street Grill & Brewery does an AMAZING job with weddings. We’ve shot enough receptions there to know that it’s one of our favorite reception spots in all of Buffalo. The staff is great, the food is delicious, and the general atmosphere is totally unique and low key at the same time.

And, of course, they have the coolest beer taps EVER.

I definitely love Buffalo. It’s a wonderful city, and I’m very proud to say that I live here; but, my heart belongs to Utica, NY – the city where I was born and raised. Being able to shoot a wedding in Utica was an amazing experience for me. Going back to places that I’ve seen all my life, familiar Utica landmarks, and looking at them now through the eyes of a photographer was pretty incredible. It’s so funny…growing up in a city as small as Utica, I couldn’t wait to move away, to see and experience what I thought were bigger and better things and places. But the older I get, the more I realize, that Utica – the quirky little city where I spent most of my life – is actually the one place that really feels like home. I love the places, the people, the food…but most of all, I love how much I feel like myself when I’m there.

Kristen and Brian are an incredible couple. Everything about their day was perfect, and we enjoyed every minute of it! I started out the day with Kristen and the girls at Hotel Utica.

Kristen and Brian’s daughter, Abby, was a very important part of their day.  She held the prestigious title of “mini bride!”  These are her darling wedding shoes.  :)

Abby was less than thrilled about me sticking my camera in her face, but she did allow me to capture a few shots of her getting ready for the big day.  I love this one!!

After the ceremony, we headed over to Hotel Utica.  K and B’s wedding party was fabulous!  For such a large group, in 97 degree weather, they did remarkably well.  Great job, guys!

Right next door to the restaurant, is The Old Library Inn, where Stacy and her girls got ready. There’s all kinds of amazing woodwork, and antique furniture at The Inn, so I had a blast with my pre-ceremony shots!

Meanwhile, over at the St. Bonaventure campus, Ben was hanging out with the boys, and capturing some AWESOME pre-ceremony moments!
These might be some of the best groomsmen shots I’ve ever seen…nice work, Ben!!  Of course, it definitely helps if your groomsmen are as laid back and cooperative as Mike’s were – thanks guys!  :)


The ceremony was in St. Bonaventure’s University Chapel, which was actually pretty cool and modern looking, as far as churches go.  Stacy making “the walk” down the aisle with her dad…







I love this shot SO MUCH.  They walked back up the aisle, past all of their guests, and as soon as they got to the door, they both had these huge smiles on their faces.  It was such a great moment to capture!
The St. Bonaventure campus was absolutely loaded with amazing things to shoot.  I think they must’ve have built this building with wedding photography in mind.  Double fire escapes?? C’mon…what are the odds?

Then, we got to spend a few minutes alone with the bride and groom for some fabulous wedding day portraits.  These two are SO easy to photograph – they are so comfortable with each other, and so obviously in love – an absolute pleasure to work with. :)


After we left the St. Bona campus, we headed on over to the reception at The Old Library Restaurant.  Mike and Stacy make their grand entrance, and go right into their first dance (there was a lot of twirling involved – it was very cute)!


Rumor has it that Mike had a hand in the making/assembly of this cake.  (If this rumor is true, then color me impressed!!)  The chocolate tuxedo is the groom’s cake – so cute!

Normally, I would never post two ring shots, but I couldn’t decide between my favorite one of Ben’s and my favorite one of mine.  Usually, we borrow the rings from the bride and groom at the start of dinner, and we each take a turn with the macro lens.  It’s become sort of a friendly competition between Ben and I (and it gives us something to do while people are eating).  The rules of the competition?  We can’t watch what the other person is doing during their turn, the ring shots have to correlate (if possible) to the theme of the wedding, and we can’t tell the other where we went or what we shot during our 10 minute turn.  The results are usually very interesting indeed.  But, anyway, I thought both of these shots were stellar.  :)
The garter/bouquet toss happened after dinner, and then the dance floor opened up and it was PACKED all night long!






I have never seen anyone pull off this dance move at a wedding reception before.  It’s probably one of those things you get to see only once in a lifetime, like Haley’s Comet, or a Blue Moon.  I feel honored to have caught it.  This girl and this guy:   you are the bomb.  ;)

I started out the day with Melissa and her girls at the Clarion Hotel in Oneonta.  Wedding  jewelry and the hem of the dress, super close-up…(I chose a different-than-usual dress shot for this post, because I loved the close-up lace details so, so much!)

The woman from the bridal shop where Melissa bought her gown, actually came to the hotel to make sure her dress was laced up properly!!  I wish I knew the name of her shop, because I’ve never heard of such amazing customer service before!!!

We don’t usually ride in the limo with our couples because we have so much shh-tuff to haul around in our cars, but in this case, the church was within walking distance, so I got to ride up front.  I love this shot so much!  It reminds me why some couples have a crap-load of people in their bridal party.  Getting married is a big deal.  It’s totally normal to be a little nervous about it, and being able to reach out and grab the hand of one of your closest friends is an absolutely essential part of the day.

How cute are these two??  I just love them! After the ceremony, we got to stop by Hartwick College for some portraits.  It’s one of those gorgeous, ivy-covered-building, perfect for wedding portraits kind of places.

My favorite portraits of these two ended up being the ones we took in between their “posed” shots (this next one is totally not posed)…they just looked so happy to be with each other…it was awesome to see!



What could be better than having an amazing looking wedding cake, covered in brightly colored fresh flowers, and white chocolate shavings?  Having THREE of them!!!  Heck YEAH!!

Apparently, Cotton Eye Joe is making a comeback as a real crowd-pleaser.  I had no idea that there was an actual dance to accompany this lovely song, but evidently there is, because this little girl rocked it like there was no tomorrow.  I think I may have to learn this dance…

I love this shot!  I happened to notice that Melissa kicked off her wedding shoes over by the DJ booth, so she could rock even harder, naturally.



Before it got too dark, we popped outside for a few more quick bride and groom portraits, and I’m SO glad we did, because these really sum up the general atmosphere of the whole day – fun, happy, and tension-free – the best kind of wedding day anyone could hope for.

Someday, little Benjamin will LOVE this photo, and be so happy he has it to look at.  Is he not the most adorable child ever?  Just look at that face!!

After we did the bridal party shots, we kept the bride and groom outside for a few minutes longer to grab some portraits of just the two of them.  I don’t know what it is about night portraits that I love so much…I just know that I love them.  :)

So, Annette and Chris had the awesome idea to have their wedding ceremony at the Chestnut Ridge Park Casino, which is exactly what I’d do if Ben and I ever decided to have a wedding (which is highly unlikely). Chestnut Ridge is the most gorgeous park around here (in my opinion); I love how old and historic looking the stone buildings, structures, and pavilions are. The main building, the Casino, is by far the park’s “show stopper” – absolutely perfect for a wedding!

I started out the day with Annette, who was quite literally, the most relaxed bride I’ve ever seen!  Not even a hint of a jitter!

The dress had such a gorgeous, intricate pattern…it was simply stunning.

We stayed at Chestnut Ridge for a while to do some bridal party shots there before the reception.  It was SUCH a gorgeous day, and there’s definitely no shortage of amazing places for pictures in that park!

Then, we all scurried over to the McKinley Inn for the reception!  Annette was looking too cool for school during her grand entrance into the reception…

This was the strangest cake placement I’ve ever encountered at a reception.  It was literally backed into a corner, so I had to make myself very tiny and squeeze between two tables to get this shot.  Even so, this is still the happiest cake-cutting face EVER!  Annette has such a pretty smile.  :)

Then, they opened up the dance floor, and this fly groomsman got the party started with some badass breakdancing!

We didn’t get a lot of time for bride and groom portraits before the reception, so luckily Annette and Chris let us borrow them for a few more at the end of the night.  We walked around outside the perimeter of the McKinley Inn until we found this field of weeds, and Ben got very excited.  He was like, “I can do SO much with this!”  He truly is the master of lighting, so I knew they would look fantastic; but, these turned out even better than I had imagined!  :)

I started out with Mary at the Holiday Inn in Hamburg. GORGEOUS DRESS!
The wedding shoes, complete with both “something old” and “something blue.”  The coin was actually a “sixpence,” which is considered to be good luck for a bride on her wedding day!  I didn’t know this before I just looked it up, but originally, the saying went like this:  ”Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in her shoe.”  Who knew?

The ceremony was at S.S. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, which is about two minutes from where we live.  It’s a gorgeous church with a ton of natural light – perfect, perfect, perfect for a wedding!  Both of Mary’s parents walked her down the aisle.  We’ve been seeing both parents walk the bride down at a lot of weddings lately, and it’s a tradition that I’m totally in favor of – so cute!

We’re totally used to working with HUGE wedding parties, so getting to work with a smaller, more intimate party is pretty cool.  These awesome gardens in the Village of Hamburg were right across the street from the church, so we popped over there for a few shots.

What’s incredibly awesome about this couple?  How about the fact that they couldn’t wait to stop and have a beer together at our local watering hole, Buffalo Street Grill!  This is so cute, I can’t even stand it!

The cake represented Mary and Rob’s love of mountain climbing, and their centerpieces were camping lanterns – two very unique ideas and totally perfect for them!

We’ll leave you with two images that will quite possibly join the ranks of our favorite bride and groom portraits of all time.  It was pouring rain that night, but we managed to convince our couple to venture out to the parking lot behind Romanello’s, where we captured these STUNNING shots!  I cannot even describe how much I love these!!

Here’s a little re-cap of who they are in case anyone needs a refresher: Aziza and Nauman own a wedding design firm in NYC, Shadi Paradise, and they specialize in creating/building custom structures for weddings and receptions. (Check out their website; seriously, their work is flawless.) So, for their own wedding, they pulled out all the stops and planned/designed the most fabulous-looking reception we’ve ever seen, and after you see these pictures, we’re pretty sure you’ll all agree!  Even though it was the morning of their wedding, they (along with their team) did all of the set-up/assembly at the venue, so we headed over to Leonard’s La Dolce Vita to document that part of the day.  It was incredible to see it all come together right before our eyes!!

Aziza and Nauman were married for a while before they had time to plan their reception, so there was no ceremony that day – just an incredibly gorgeous reception that was a blast to photograph!

Ok, so this post is definitely heavy on the details, but there were so many that we just couldn’t stop ourselves!  It was also our first time photographing a Pakistani wedding, so everything was new and different to us, and each custom/tradition we learned about was awesome.  The pink and purple beaded wedding dress and veil was exquisite…all night long, I kept seeing Aziza walk around in it and I was like, “this is SO much better than white!!”

We grabbed a few shots of the handsome groom while we were waiting for Aziza…

…and then, we took a few shots of the bride and groom before all of the guests arrived.

More details!!  Sorry, but like I said, we couldn’t help ourselves…there was coolness every where we looked; and, oh by the way, these next several shots have not been enhanced – the colors in the ballroom were really that vibrant.  I can’t even believe how fabulous it looked…Aziza and Nauman are A-MAAAAAA-ZING designers!!

This is one of my favorite shots from the day.  At a Pakistani wedding, it is customary for the bride and groom to sit together on a “stage” in front of all the guests (another thing we learned that day!); so, as soon as they walked in and sat down, people were hopping up from their tables to take a zillion pictures of them.
Before dinner was served, there were three incredible entertainment segments.  First, was Wanted Ashiqz, who describe themselves as “New York’s Premier Bollywood Fusion/Dance Troupe” – they were definitely awesome.

Then, there was Elliot Zimet, an amazing magician/illusionist who you might remember from “America’s Got Talent…”
The third act was this guy, who was a pretty talented Michael Jackson impersonator…he definitely put on a good show.

Leonard’s has, literally, the biggest chandelier we’ve ever seen…just to guestimate, it was probably 25 feet long and 5 feet across – kind of unbelievable.  So, when it was time to take some portraits of the bride and groom, we headed straight for the mammoth chandelier/spiral staircase area.




At the end of the night, after most of the guests had already left, their family members and a few of their closest friends gathered around to send them off!
They really wanted us to get some shots of their Rolls Royce Phantom.  (I don’t know anything about cars, at ALL, but apparently, the Phantom is a pretty big deal.)  ;)



The perfect end to a perfect day!

Aziza and Nauman, once again, thank-you so much for choosing us to be a part of your wedding day! We absolutely loved every part of it! You guys were so easy and fun to work with. We wish you all the best ALWAYS!! :)
