There is a point during Buffalo’s winter season, where enough becomes enough, and people start to lose it. It happens every year. We’ll get a couple of nice-ish days in a row, usually in March, somewhere in the range of 45-55 degrees, and everyone flees to the great outdoors (many in shorts), doing ridiculous things like sweeping the winter grit out of their driveways with a push broom, and putting the screens back in their windows to feel that glorious cross breeze. Excitement is in the air, people are happy, and world seems new again…and then…like a battle between the forces of good and evil, Winter swoops back in, shoving lovely Spring aside, and dumps two feet of snow on us. Our hopes crushed, we retreat to the safety of our long underwear and wool socks, and try once again to pretend that snowshoeing is cool. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have officially reached the point of losing it. Even, Lily-the-Golden-Retriever is losing it. She had a few good days in the sun, and now she just stands by the back door whining, and looks at us pleadingly with those big brown eyeballs. “Lily, do you have to go potty?” We open the door, and she just stands there in a fixed position, staring at us, as if to say, “Could you just bring the grass back…PLEASE?!?! Or even just some sunshine?? I feel so PASTE-Y!!” We repeat this process at least twenty times a day.
All we can do is wait. So, in the meantime, until we awake to the plush, green new-ness of Spring, I draw inspiration from life, love, and the amazing couples that we are so fortunate to work with. Sometimes, just being in the company of a soon-to-be-married, super in-love couple, like Marni and Armand, is enough to chase my Winter blues away. :)
We met up with Marni and Armand at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, which has become our go-to spot for Winter shoots; especially when the weather is being extra special, and the wind feels like a thousand tiny needles hitting you in the face (YIKES!! Can you tell I’m a little bitter about Winter today? Wow.) The Gardens are warm and inviting. There are bunches of bananas growing there year round, and you can leave your heavy coat, scarf, and earmuffs at the door – what more could you ask for?
Aren’t they just ridiculously cute??
This fish tank is one of my favorite features of the Botanical Gardens. There is a button that you have to hold down to light up the tank and make it bubble…I’m kind of a sucker for anything interactive like that. ;)
Well, this is totally gorgeous…
You’re pretty hot stuff, Marni ;)
This is definitely my favorite of the day for awesome lighting techniques (helloooooooo, snoot!!)
After we shot the heck outta the inside of the Gardens, we piled on the winter gear and headed outside for some snowy love. :)
(I heart running in the snow pictures…sooooo cute.)
Marni and Armand – it was such a pleasure to hang out with you guys, and get to know you a little bit before your big day! Thanks for brightening up our blah Buffalo winter with your sunny smiles and adorable-ness! Can’t wait for the wedding!! :)
