This has been a really awesome wedding season for us in every way possible. We’ve met and worked with so many amazing couples this year, and Mary and John are absolutely one of those couples. From the first time we met, we felt so comfortable with them. They are both incredible people with HUGE hearts, and it was such a pleasure to be a part of their wedding day. It was so hot that day…hotter than hot…it was feel-the-sweat-rolling-down-your-back HOT; but, man, did we have fun with Mary and John and their lovely wedding party. Thank you, M + J, for being such wonderfully authentic people. You guys are the real deal. We couldn’t have asked for a better couple to work with.
Mary and John each shared a few of their favorite wedding day memories with us, so that we can share them with all of you! I’ll be including those throughout the post. :)
I started out the day at Mary’s parents’ home to capture some getting ready action with the ladies, and Ben started out just down the street with John and the guys at Mary’s grandmother’s house!Mary: “Having all of my bridesmaids (and their beautiful babies) and two of my aunts together to get ready. I really missed my mom, but my sister and maid of honor, bridesmaids, and Aunts Linda and Jacqui did everything they could to make the day special and help remind me that my mom was really with me, all day and always. They also helped me get into that dress, I think it took everyone!” Mary: “Seeing John- we had decided to do the “first look” before the ceremony, and we are so glad we did. John is the calm to my storm and the laughter to my smile. As we were walking to meet each other I was ready to run to hug him. I knew at that moment everything was going to be perfect, and I was so excited to get married.”
John: “Seeing Mary the first time. We met in the middle of the street between her parents house and her grandparent’s house. She looked beautiful. It was the start of what would be the best day of my life.”
We had a few minutes before we had to be at the church, so we snagged a few pre-ceremony shots at the duck pond in Mary’s neighborhood! John: “Driving the cool car to church. It really made us feel special to ride in style! Thanks Mr. and Mrs. B!”
Mary: “The wedding ceremony. Saying the vows and making it official. Becoming our family, it doesn’t get much better than that!”
John: “The actual ceremony was very special and I will always remember it fondly. Msgr. LiPuma made the ceremony personal and made a special effort to make sure we were able to see and feel the love and support from so many friends and family.”
John: “Being introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Jordan for the first time, officially starting our life together.” Right after the ceremony, we hit up the West Side Rowing Club for some photos! Mary is a long time sailor and rower and has spent all sorts of time at this spot, so for her, it was a very special location for photos. :) Our last stop of the day was The Twentieth Century Club for an absolutely fabulous reception! It was our first time shooting here, and hopefully there will be many more opportunities to come – what an insanely gorgeous place!! Everything was perfect.
John: “Our first dance, I had kept the song a secret from Mary and the second she realized it was “Better Together” she was really touched. That was a song she had sent me when I was working in Afghanistan- I was hoping she would be excited and she was.”
Mary: “Dad’s Speech and the father daughter dance were a tie! My dad educated the guests of our wedding about some of Buffalo’s history and properly welcomed John into our family while asking for grandkids – it was pretty hysterical. And, nope, no kids yet. :) The father Daughter dance was a combo— slow and fast. When it was time to go fast Dad didn’t disappoint, he can twist with the best of ’em!”
Mary: “Toward the end of the night I found a moment to get some cake and sit down and take in the party. Luckily at that moment John found me, and we had some cake and admired our beautiful friends and family having an awesome time dancing, laughing, and sharing memories.” Mary and John opted to have The Ayres Photo Booth at their reception, and although I may be slightly biased, I think it was definitely a good decision. ;) SO. MUCH. FUN. We asked Mary and John to share some wedding related advice with our lovely readers, and this is what they had to say! Thanks so much for sharing, guys!!
Mary: “If you think you want the photo booth, DO IT! It was a huge hit with our guests and we are so glad that we booked it. Thanks Jenn and Ben!!”
John: “Think about all the aspects of your day and identify what will be important to you, then take the time to live them, who cares if they aren’t as rehearsed or planned, they are a part of your day.”
Thank you so much, Mary and John! We loved every minute of your wedding day! Thanks for making us feel so welcome and like a part of your family – you two are THE BEST!! Much love, J + B :)
