Rachel and Javid are a super adorable couple.  They are just one of those couples who are so obviously and unquestionably in love, that it makes everyone around them feel warm and fuzzy.  I love it when that happens.  We feel so lucky to have been a part of their wedding day!  It was a day of “firsts” for the Ayres team, and that always makes things extra exciting for us.  It was our first time shooting a ceremony at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, which is truly one of Buffalo’s most incredible works of architectural art.  If you live in Buffalo, you’ve seen this church many times.  You’ve probably even walked by it and marveled at its impressive turrets and interesting placement in the city – I know I have!   To see the inside of this magical cathedral is really an experience.  If you’ve never been inside, you need to take a peek!  Another “first” for us was shooting a reception at Kleinhans Music Hall, which is something we’ve been talking about doing for over five years now.  What an incredible place for a wedding!!  Loved everything about it!  It was also our first time photographing a groom who hails from Baku, Azerbaijan – a geographical location that I never even knew existed before meeting Javid.  I think I need to get out more!!  Rachel and Javid were willing to share some of their favorite wedding day memories with us, so that we could share them with you!  Look for those throughout the post!  :)

This is really one of my favorite “first look” sequences of all time.  How cute are these two?!

Javid:  “Our little nieces and nephews walking down the aisle to start the ceremony. They were so cute and so serious about their roles.”
Rachel:  “When my father, George, walked me to the end of the aisle, he gave Javid a big hug. The mutual joy was apparent in both of their faces and I loved seeing it!”

Javid:  “I know this is a bit old-fashioned, but I got really emotional when I “took” Rachel from her father. I gave George a big hug and promised to take care of Rachel forever.”

Rachel:  “I know that some like to write their own vows, but for me, there was great significance in saying the same words to Javid that my parents had said to each other in that same spot, forty years before. “

Javid:  “Holding Rachel’s hand and looking into her eyes while saying my vows was a moment I will always remember.  It was wonderful to have all of my family together sharing our joy. During the ceremony, I peeked at my parents, and they seemed so serene and happy.”

We were so dazzled by this gorgeous church that we absolutely had to take a few more shots of our beautiful couple with the lovely stained glass.  I can’t wait to shoot here again!
Have you ever been to a cocktail party at Kleinhans?  I must say, it was very swanky.  ;)  I love this city…there is so much beauty here.
The Mary Seaton Room looked so elegant!
Rachel:  “Seeing the line at the cake buffet! We thought that it would be a fun family tradition to continue, but we had no idea just how well-received it would be!”
Rachel:  “At the very end of the night, the dance floor was packed and everyone, young and old, was having a great time! It would have been great to have the party last for another hour, but this way, everyone went home happy!”

Javid:  “Watching some of our friends and relatives experiment with new folk dance moves! The Azerbaijani dance music was definitely a big hit.”

Some wedding planning advice from our lovely bride, Rachel:

“When I told a friend that I was getting married, she shared advice that someone had given her: pick a few things not to compromise on for your wedding, whether it’s your dress or the location or that one special tradition that you want to uphold (or the spouse!), and be flexible on everything else. I think that is helpful when you’re discussing endless details and decisions.”

Rachel and Javid – thank you so much for choosing us to capture these wonderful memories for you! You were so much fun to work with, and we really enjoyed being a part of such a special day! Cheers to the start of a lifetime of love and happiness!! J + B :)
